Yearend Series 2009: These Are A Few of My Favorite Things… (I)

…and then I don’t feel so bad.

(No more April yearend entries this time. Gosh, that was lame.)

MUSIC

Tonight, I will be deleting all the music in my iPod and will start the painstaking task of building my portable music database once again. This will entail 1) said deletion; 2) replacing the corrupted album art with workable ones; 3) selecting my favorite tracks from each album I have downloaded (I download by album most of the time); 4) attaching the workable album art to these tracks; and 5) transferring all the files to my iPod Touch. Now that work’s starting once again, I don’t think I’ll be able to accomplish this before the end of the month, but the deletion will have to take place tonight. Just so I know there’s nothing in there for me, and unless I act, music will no longer reach my ears.

Before I do that, though, I have to pay homage to the singles that made my 2009 a more musical year to be in (Don’t forget to click the “i” on the upper-right corner, OK?):

2009: Music

[img src=http://www.thesunbakedking.com/wp-content/flagallery/2009-music/thumbs/thumbs_10-no-boundaries-al.jpg]No Boundaries - Adam Lambert
I am an Adam Lambert fan, no doubt about it. His best performance in the Idol Season-- Tracks of My Tears-- still fills me with awe (and goosebumps) each time I revisit it in YouTube. He should have won that competition, IMO. No Boundaries, that godawful coronation song, comes in at number 10. Such passion! Such drive! Such control! Whenever I go to the gym to run on the treadmill, his version of the song's the one that's playing in my iPod.
[img src=http://www.thesunbakedking.com/wp-content/flagallery/2009-music/thumbs/thumbs_9-three.jpg]Three - Britney Spears
It's nice to see BritBrit back in the limelight in 2009. Circus, released late 2008, produced for Britney an onslaught of top hits, placing her in positions she once held way back in 1997. It's no secret from my friends that I've been a big Britney fan since high school, so it was refreshing to see her in the tube again, and all for the right reasons. Three grabs the number 9 spot. Infinitely catchy, and it's about threesomes! I cannot complain.
[img src=http://www.thesunbakedking.com/wp-content/flagallery/2009-music/thumbs/thumbs_8-if-u-seek-amy.jpg]If You Seek Amy - Britney Spears
Perhaps the most controversial of all the singles released from Circus, If U Seek Amy combines a naughtiness that is patently Britney, and incorporates a wordplay that is both surprising (the first time) and surprisingly hard to forget (after that first time).
[img src=http://www.thesunbakedking.com/wp-content/flagallery/2009-music/thumbs/thumbs_7-no-boundaries-ka.jpg]No Boundaries - Kris Allen
Okay, I'll give it to Kris Allen: he sounds REALLY good in his studio recordings. In fact, I like his voice so much that he appears twice in my top 10. There's just something very soothing about his voice. This is perhaps one of the reasons why I'm changing my American Idol criteria for 2010. I'll do it as White does it: judge the performances and judge the iTunes studio recordings. This should intensify the mathematics a bit, but what's a little arithmetic here and there?
[img src=http://www.thesunbakedking.com/wp-content/flagallery/2009-music/thumbs/thumbs_6-party-in-the-usa.jpg]Party in the USA - Miley Cyrus
Who would have thought that one country girl from Tennessee would make it big and become of the best-selling pop stars of the latter part of the decade? Who would have thought that she would be living two lives? Who would have thought that this simple girl would be disrupting her best friend's birthday by the beach, would meet a jailbait hunk who likes to ride horses shirtless, and would get in a catfight with Tyra Ba-- Oh, that's the plot of Hannah Montana. *shrugs* Party in the USA, numero seis.
[img src=http://www.thesunbakedking.com/wp-content/flagallery/2009-music/thumbs/thumbs_5-touch-my-hand.jpg]Touch My Hand - David Archuleta
The parade of American Idol contestants begins. Touch My Hand kicks off the front end of the countdown at number 5.
[img src=http://www.thesunbakedking.com/wp-content/flagallery/2009-music/thumbs/thumbs_4-a-little-too-not-over-you.jpg]A Little Too Not Over You - David Archuleta
Archie reigned supreme last year, with 5 songs in the top 10. With two in the top 10 this year, it's still not a bad showing from baby Archie. (Granted, the two songs this year also appeared last year, so I may have a little bias there.)
[img src=http://www.thesunbakedking.com/wp-content/flagallery/2009-music/thumbs/thumbs_3-live-like-were-dying.jpg]Live Like We're Dying - Kris Allen
I haven't downloaded Adam's For Your Entertainment just yet (don't get me started on the cover art), so I don't know how it would measure up, but Kris Allen's first single, Live Like We're Dying, is a very good foundation to base his album, and ultimately his career, on. It's quite saddening to hear that album sales haven't been up to par with the rest of the American Idol alumni, but it's no Taylor Someone dud, so that's a relief. (Dear Awesome Jawline, why didn't I have the genes?)
[img src=http://www.thesunbakedking.com/wp-content/flagallery/2009-music/thumbs/thumbs_2-battlefield.jpg]Battlefield - Jordin Sparks
Next to Kelly Clarkson's Longshot, my second most favorite song to listen to while working out, and the first track off any of Jordin's albums that I really liked. (I'm still bitter about Blake Lewis losing their American Idol season.)
[img src=http://www.thesunbakedking.com/wp-content/flagallery/2009-music/thumbs/thumbs_1-do-you-remember.jpg]Do You Remember - Jay Sean
There are certain songs that you cannot get enough of. It may be a feel-good ballad that you can relate with, or an upbeat tune that can make you move your hips like yeah. Whatever the reason, these songs will surely be on loop at least once after it has been downloaded. Jay Sean's Do You Remember is one such song. Insanely rhythmic, it feels like each beat is an invitation to dance; each verse is a come-on to get your groove on.

  1. Joey says:

    Oh… Archie!! :D

I agree. Adam should’ve won. But you know, based on the previous year, the one who doesn’t do well in the finale wins (relatively).

  2. M says:

    Where is Adam, anyway?

Your top 10 = Britney + AmIdol! Ak! Hahaha.

And you work out to Battlefield? Hahaha. I should try that.

  3. Goodboi says:

Here’s to the pop idol fanatic, cheers!

It’s time to kick ass, happy new year!

  4. kerwin says:

I know how deep your love for Archie is, Joey! :) Hay, I remember the concert… :P

  5. kerwin says:

Hi Mak! Adam is currently creating controversies left and right. Hihi. And singing for end-of-the-world films.

Yes! Skip one step on the treadmill for each utterance of “battlefield.” Run faster when “youbettergoandgetyourarmor” comes on.

  6. kerwin says:

I just hope it’s not my ass that gets kicked. Hahaha. Happy new year, Goodboi. :)

  7. GBV says:

When things get tough and the tough gets going, I’ll make sure that I’ll be the first to kick your ass off from whatever drama you put in here. Mark my words!

  8. kerwin says:

Thanks for the possible reality check, Goodboi. I’m pretty sure I’ll be needing it somewhere down the road. :P
