If you’re new here, let me set your mind straight with some introductions. I’m Kerwin Ray1, and I like talking about myself. It may not be obvious from my choice of “About Me” photo– so serious, no?– and it may not be immediately apparent when you meet me in person– I won’t be the first to speak, trust me– but in this blog, I’m the star. I’m the King.
If you’re not new here, then I guess there’s nothing else left to say that I haven’t already said during the past five blogs that you’ve been with me (check the Stale But Wonderful links in the sidebar). I’m still pretty much the same Kerwin you have all learned to love and (probably) hate– the person who wakes up early each morning just to catch the live telecast of The Amazing Race; the person who loves spicy food and will probably sprinkle Tabasco on almost every dish; the person who likes to create puzzles in Microsoft Excel during his spare time; the person whose love for Britney Spears is deep, rooted in childhood, and richly satisfying; and the person who manages to have a strange fondness for numbers and all its kin. Yes, I’m still that guy.
And I’m still the guy who loves to write. My writing may wane and wax like the moon’s monthly cycle (or the woman’s menstrual cycle, whichever works for you), but like the tidal pull, I keep getting back to it. It’s a love that will not die, nor do I want it to. So while some blogs may last only for three months with fewer than 12 entries2, and others may last for more than a year with more than 100 entries3, the fact remains the same: I cannot go on living without writing.
This new site is yet another attempt to return to form. With a bill of $60 hanging over my head, perhaps I’ll learn to tame my nomadic nature.
- Kerwin: Irish for “darkskinned”; Ray: Spanish for “king”. My officemate forgot what my name meant, and misremembered the etymology. So instead of The Dark-Skinned King, I became The Sunbaked King. Like I always say, this was a genius mistake. And yes, this is one of those instances in which you must read the footnotes, just like what your college professors always instructed you to do. ↩
